St Columba − where life and faith meet

St Columba is a Presbyterian Church  located in Botany Downs, Manukau, New Zealand – right near the Botany Town Centre.

We are a Christian community, which means we are a group of people who find life and hope in Jesus Christ. We believe that Jesus' life on earth – his birth, his teaching, his healing and his love, together with his suffering, death and resurrection  – has profound meaning for our lives today. Not only that, but we also want to share that life-changing experience with others in our local community and throughout the world.

At St Columba, we've tried to express in words who we are as a local church in the Botany community. This is what we came up with...

We believe in God – up close and personal

God does not stand at a distance, but rolls His sleeves up and pitches in with us to show us how life can be lived to the full.

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” (John 1:14)

We are a community

Our mission is to invite all people into a life-transforming relationship with God.

We are multi-cultural, multi-generational and regional; not a building, an event or a proposition, but a community of people who experience God at work in our lives through Jesus.

“Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” (John 13:34-5).

We live in environments of

Belonging – linking people with people
Growing – linking people with God
Recovering – linking people with their true self
Serving – linking people with needs.

“For in Him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts: 17:28)

We expect

God to show up – to be shaped, guided and empowered by His Spirit
Creativity to be the evidence of being made in the image of God
To go the extra mile and to have fun along the way
To pray like it depends on God – and work like it depends on us
To give as we have received
To be real – the wounded take time to heal and the well to be the healers
To give our lives away in service and hospitality to others.

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” (Ephesians 3:20)

So that

People will come to personal faith in Jesus Christ, and communities of creativity, hope and healing with be formed throughout East Auckland, New Zealand and the World.

My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.” (John 10:10)
