Serve + Home Visiting Programme

St Columba is running an accredited visiting programme called Serve + for older members of our community (65+).  The initiative is supported by Presbyterian Support's services for older people -Enliven Positive Ageing Services.

Why become a volunteer visitor?

  • a rewarding, fulfilling experience
  • listening and learning from an older person
  • building friendships
  • training and on-going support

All our visitors are formally trained by Enliven Positive Ageing Services to achieve accreditation. Volunteer visitors need to be able to give one hour per week on a regular basis, commitment for a minimum of 1-year, be subject to a police check and have their own transportation and full driver's license.

All volunteers are supported by a coordinator who aims to pair visitors with compatible older people. All pairings will be monitored through regular evaluation sessions and the coordinator will be available to help with any problems that arise.

Why have a visitor?

  • regular visits to look forward to
  • sharing your experiences and history
  • building friendships
  • keeping connected to a younger generation

Feel free to contact us if you are interested in joining this programme. A Serve + coordinator will visit you and talk through the programme and what it involves. If you decide you'd like to be visited, you will be carefully paired with one of our volunteers, someone that best matches you. The visits will be monitored regularly to make sure that you and your visitor are well suited. Visits are conducted weekly at a convenient time for both you and your visitor and are approximately one hour long.

To find out more about the home visiting programme or to book an appointment with our coordinator please contact the church office on 274 4864.
