Starting on Sunday 1 January, Andrew & Matt will teach throughout the year following the Lectionary. The Lectionary is simply a list of readings from scripture that are read at services of worship. This originated from a Jewish tradition of having selected readings throughout the year that covered the WHOLE of God's salvation story.
Today the Lectionary is used to ensure the whole range of Old & New testament scriptures are covered every three years.
This is the first time for St Columba for many years as our normal approach has been to plan "topical series". The reason for taking this approach in 2012 is that it may provide us with a number of significant opportunites.
While we will be following a set of readings, we will still have opportunites for flexibility & creativity.
The first of the Christian seasons is Epiphany from 1 January until 19 February. This is a season that reflects on how Jesus is the revelation of God to all people.
An epiphany (from the ancient Greek, epiphaneia, "manifestation, striking appearance") is the sudden realization or comprehension of the (larger) essence or meaning of something.
Another way of looking at it is like discovering a missing piece of puzzle, the code to a combination lock or a light bulb moment when everything becomes clear. There couldn't be a better time than over summer to have your personal epiphany!
We look forward to sharing this journey with you.
