Who holds the power?

4 October 2007

WASSUP - Footprints on your heart

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same.

Unknown

Who are the people that have left footprints on your heart?

Take some time right now to write them an email of give them a phone call.

"Thanks for the difference you've made in my life!"

Andrew

INSIGHT OUT - Who holds the power?

Who holds the power?

Is it the one with the gun in hand or the one who kneels in silent prayer?

Is it the one who buys favour or who gives without counting cost?

Violence and peace clash in the streets

Silenced for a season

Waiting to sing of freedom's song ...

He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.

Luke 1:51-53

OUTSIGHT IN - Substance

I found myself looking at the word "substance"

substance

c.1300, "essential nature," from O.Fr. substance (12c.), from L. substantia "being, essence, material," from substans, prp. of substare "stand firm, be under or present," from sub "up to, under" + stare "to stand," from PIE base *sta- "to stand". A loan-translation of Gk. hypostasis. Sense of "the matter of a study, discourse, etc." first recorded 1390. Meaning "any kind of corporeal matter" also is first attested 1390.

Now say the word slowly "sub - stance"

"To stand upon"

How you stand depends entirely what you stand on - that is your substance!

What do you stand on?

What do you stand for?

What do you stand with?

Or ...

to use the word in it's later meaning (essence, being, matter)

What are you made of?

LAST WORD - The measure

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
