New Zealand Unleashed

21 June 2007

WASSUP - The long way round

Sue and I have been watching the DVD series of the Long Way Round.
The story of a couple of guys who ride their motor bikes from London to New York.
Inspirational stuff!

It makes you think about what you do with your life. Where are you going?

I then came across this ...

Step then
from the staid and sombre line.
Move out in dancing
into dreams so daring;
Without them you will settle for the road
that wanders by and winds to nowhere

Dream Dancer (Author unknown)

Where is your road leading you?

INSIGHT OUT - What's on your mind?

You are here but your mind is in another place
An aspiration
a pre-occupation a passion a distraction an obsession calling your mind to another place

tell me ...

what's on your mind?

You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.

Isaiah 26:3

OUTSIGHT IN - New Zealand Unleashed

There are only so many times we can sing "God defend New Zealand".
Sooner or later (sooner I hope) we will need to do something!

Just released this last week:
New Zealand Unleashed by Steven Carden

Steven's book adds an excellent and wide-ranging contribution to the increasingly critical debate on the future path for our country.

Chris Liddell, CFO, Microsoft

This is a gutsy and inspiring pronouncement of the challenges facing New Zealand ... Steven invokes science, philosophy and history to tell a story of how great we can be if we are courageous enough to use our nation's size, creativity and flexibility to maximum advantage

John Key, MP, Leader of the National Party

It is refreshing, provocative and should stimulate much needed debate. In today's rapidly changing world, this is a challenge we must rise to meet. As an emerging New Zealand thinker, Steven Carden has helped us to do just that.

Hon. David Cunliffe, MP, Minister of Immigration

New Zealand Unleashed is a fast-paced, irreverent look at how New Zealand can prepare itself for an uncertain future. The answer - and the book's central idea - lies in New Zealand's ability to change. Flexible, agile, and accustomed to ongoing adaptation - these are the hallmarks of any society well prepared to take on an unpredictable future.

The book examines four crucial questions:

  • Why does the pace of change seem so rampant today, the future so uncertain, and why does that unnerve us so much?
  • Given that uncertainty and complexity is an increasing fact of life, what are the three key traits that successful societies use to deal with it?
  • Has New Zealand exhibited these three key traits in the past, and what does it tell us about our ability to cope with change and uncertainty in the future?
  • How can New Zealand nurture these three key traits to help build a stronger country in the future?

New Zealand Unleashed is an ambitious book about New Zealand and its future. Written by a young New Zealander, it takes a unique look at where New Zealand has been, where it is going, and what it will take for it to get there.

Steven Carden is an Engagement Manager at the management consulting firm, McKinsey and Company, in New Zealand. Prior to returning home to New Zealand in 2006, Steven worked for three years in McKinsey's New York office. In 2005, Steven was picked by the Sir Peter Blake Trust as one of New Zealand's five emerging leaders.

SEE YA SUNDAY - Soul Quest: Intelligent Design

8.30 & 10.30

I'm a fan of CSI and other forensic crime TV shows. They remind me to gather the evidence and not to jump to conclusions too quickly. Problem being, the clues are right under our nose but we have failed to see them.

This Sunday we gather the evidence of intelligent design that stands behind creation.

LT will be opening up the scriptures and exploring the implications of Intelligent Design.

Soul Quest
This series explores how you can know God without selling your soul. Many people have a concept that becoming a Christian is all about becoming a stranger to themselves, this couldn't be further from the truth. It's about becoming more authentic to who you really are! God has designed you to know him. The clues to knowing God are already in you.

If you would like tape or CD copies of the messages at St Columba to pass on to others please make your request by reply to the email. There is a nominal charge for this.

CANVAS this Sunday evening with Dave Wells @ 7pm.
Dave is a Bible College of NZ youth lecturer and will be speaking on the Kingdom of God.

Can't wait ... see ya Sunday

Thanks for this time to chat.
