What to do with daylight?

10 May 2007

WASSUP - Pass it on

4U exists as
a stone skipping on a still pond
a light in the shadows
a voice that refuses to be silent
a connection between work and worship

Let us be proud that we are not experts on anything. Let us be proud of the words that are given to us for nothing, not to teach anyone, not to confuse anyone, not to prove anyone absurd, but to point beyond all objects into the silence where nothing can be said.

Thomas Merton (p.96)

Pass it on

INSIGHT OUT - Words to live by

I admit that I like "re" words.
Words like renewal, restore, recreate, reinvent, recover and rediscover

But

I'm thinking of making a move from "re" words to "de" words
Words like describe, define, design, develop, depend, delight, determine, desire and destiny

"Re" words are often looking back to the way things were."de" words start now and determine your tomorrow

What words describe your life?

I almost forgot another great "de" word ...

OUTSIGHT IN - What to do with daylight?

Daylight saving hours have just been increased
Begs the question,

What to do with daylight?

You have just a few short months of winter to contemplate your answer

That question is the topic of a book in the Bible, Ecclesiastes

King Solomon wanted to know what to do with daylight?
Is there any meaning and purpose of life "under the sun?"
His answer may surprise you,

"Utterly meaningless!" Ecc1:2

Meaning "under the sun" (that's short hand for the meaning of life) can only be found "above the sun" (that's short hand for God the creator of the sun)

Read the book for yourself

And the conclusion ...

Remember your Creator
in the days of your youth,
before the days of trouble come
and the years approach when you will say,
'I find no pleasure in them'
before the sun and the light
and the moon and the stars grow dark

Ecc 12:1 & 2

SEE YA SUNDAY - Overcoming Soul Fatigue

8.30 & 10.30

If you would like tape or CD copies of the messages at St Columba to pass on to others please make your request by reply to the email. There is a nominal cost for this.

Coming up next week the start of a new series Soul Quest.

This series explores how you can know God without selling your soul. Many people have a concept that becoming a Christian is all about becoming a stranger to themselves; this couldn't be further from the truth. It's about becoming more authentic to who you really are! God has designed you to know him. The clues to knowing God are already in you.

Sunday evening service this week @ 7.00pm with guest speaker Chris Defibaugh - Emotional well-being.

Can't wait ... see ya Sunday

Thanks for this time to chat.

It's free but don't steal

If this is of help to others, you are welcome to forward it. This e-mail letter is 97% original - 3% cut and paste & 100% fat free. 4U is copyright to Andrew Norton. That means you can't cut and paste it and call it your own (that's stealing). I'm happy for it to be used but please refer to the author.

LAST WORD - Beyond speech

And the deepest level of communication is not communication, but communion. It is wordless. It is beyond words, and it is beyond speech, and it is beyond concept.
