Chasing Cars

26 October 2006

WASSUP - Chasing cars

I've been listening to Snow Patrol - Chasing cars

Let's waste time chasing cars
around our heads
I need your grace to remind me
To find my own

I'm often chasing cars around in my head

Thinking of an idea as a car.
Following it.
Where is it going?
What kind or car is it (make and model)?
What colour is it?
What speed is it going?
What roads does it take?
Taking in the view out the window

Now it is your turn, find your own car chase, but look out for intersections and railway crossings; they can be dangerous.

INSIGHT OUT - Sole touching soul

You argue with words
Excuse me if I don't listen
I'll watch your feet instead
Another story leaving its mark
Feet can not tell lies
Only words can
Watch your feet
Sole touching soul
Spirit imprinted in sand
Leading
Walking
Stumbling
Standing
Speaking volumes

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news

Isa 52:7

(Foot note: What message do your feet carry?)

OUTSIGHT IN - Why business think is not the answer

We must reject the idea - well intentioned, but dead wrong - that the primary path to greatness in the social sectors is to become "more like a business." Most business - like most anything else in life - fall somewhere between mediocre and good. Few are great. When you compare great companies with good ones, many widely practiced business norms turn out to correlate with mediocrity, not greatness. So then, why would we want to import the practices of mediocrity into the social sectors?

Jim Collins

What a provocative way to get your attention!

Why Business thinking is not the answer - Good to Great and the Social Sectors. By Jim Collins

This little book is a follow up to Good to Great with application for the Social Sectors. A good read and worthy of exploration.

Here's my prediction .

Over the next few years we will see more and more business looking to the Social Sectors for inspiration and best practice. Why?

Because profit can easily mask or confuse the issues of meaning, purpose and real value to which those in the Social Sector need to deliver on.

SEE YA SUNDAY - Going somewhere

This Sunday morning 8.30 & 10.30 am - Going somewhere Part 3 - Where your feet lead
Over the next weeks we will be working our way through a number of the Psalms of ascent.
These Psalms tell the story of a journey of change and transformation. But that's not the point. It's about being on the way!
This week, if you want to know where you are going, look at your feet they will tell you.

Bread & Wine - 9.45am - Weekly Communion

Thanks for this time to chat.

LAST WORD - Being busy pointlessly

Let every word be the fruit of action and reflection. Reflection alone without action or tending towards it is mere theory, adding its weight when we are over-loaded with it already..Action alone without reflection is being busy pointlessly.
