WASSUP - Time out
Every Thursday we have this thing going on; I get up early in the morning and write 4U. Just for you.
A weekly fix of ideas that come out of the blue and take you into all sorts of mind and soul adventures.
I hope you can manage without 4U as I'm taking a break for the next month to have some time out for refreshment and renewal.
If you still need your weekly 4U fix, please go to www.stcolumba.org.nz and read through the issues from the last couple of years. They still work.
Or you my like to get writing yourself; visit me at my blog page http://4u2rethink.blogspot.com. I have a few listings there that you can contribute to with your comments.
INSIGHT OUT - His voice
The watchman opens the gate for him and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
John 10:3
I hear my name called across a crowded room;
I recognize it
Who is it that calls?
A familiar voice
knows my name.
Who knows me and cares?
An invitation (never a command)
To follow
To be led
OUTSIGHT IN - Platform agnostic
This phrase caught my attention yesterday as I was listening to Joan Withers, CEO of Fairfax New Zealand.
How could a publisher that is in the print media business become platform agnostic?
Firstly, I'm assuming that "platform agnostic" means - don't put all your eggs into one way of delivering your business. This is pretty gutsy for a print media business that relies on ink and paper. But more than that, they put up $700,000,000.00 to buy Trade Me.
This was not a buy out of the competition, it was a re-think on how their business could be delivered.
The product doesn't change but the method (platform) of delivery does.
Now let's have a closer look at the way you are doing business?
Is what you are currently doing working?
Will it still be working for you in 5 - 10 years time?
What changes to your "platform" (method of doing) could you explore?
Do you really want to be in business in 5 - 10 years time? Are you willing to go the way of the dinosaur?
When was the last time you sat down to a typewriter?
This is very relevant for me when looking at the future shape of church as many churches will simply not exist within the next ten years. Their method / platform of delivery is no longer relevant and simply is not working.
Become platform agnostic.
Of course, that does assume that you have a few good ideas as to what the new platform may possibly be; and when you do find one, it is worthy of huge investment.

LAST WORD - Stilled
Thou must be like a promontory of the sea, against which, though the waves beat continually, yet it both itself stands, and about it are those swelling waves stilled and quieted.
Marcus Aurelius
